There are a number of our Facebook WordPress Plugins that will require a Facebook App ID and/or App Secret. For this you will need to set up a developer app on Facebook’s developer portal and here is a guide to do that.
Firstly head to https://developers.facebook.com/apps/, if you have never been to this page before then you may be asked to install the Facebook App for Developers.
When you are finally inside the developer app, there will be a button on the top right called ‘Create App’. This will launch the below popup.
In this popup add the name of your site, and also a name space. This namespace is actually optional but if you use it remember that you cannot have spaces in this string. Add a category of the site and then click ‘Continue’. You may also be asked to solve a captcha.
This will now put you inside your Facebook Add developer dashboard, shown below.
All you need to do here is add your domain to the App domains area and ensure that Sandbox Mode is Disabled. Then click ‘Save Changes’ at the bottom of this page.
Then you’re done, this is a Facebook App set up in its most basic form for use on a domain. There are 2 values you may need in some of our plugins, these are the App ID and the App Secret. Keep hold of these until you are asked for them.
